A STUD PREFIX is the member's own distinguishing stud name. All eligible ponies bred by a member of the Society, must carry his or her own individual stud prefix. The name of a registered pony can never be changed (unless prior permission, in writing, is given by the breeder) and any pony bred by you will always carry your own stud prefix, even when it changes hands.

Members should also register their own distinguishing BRAND design with the Society. All members will receive a copy of the Society's Federal Newsletter which is published twice a year. The Newsletter helps to keep members informed of events within the Society. The members are welcome to advertise and submit articles for consideration for this publication. PROCEDURE TO TRANSFER

APPLICATION FOR TRANSFER FORM

  1. The vendor is the owner of the pony as per Society's records.
  2. The original Foal Recording or Adult Registration certificate must accompany this application.
  3. The purchaser must be a financial member of the Society, if not, a request for a membership application should accompany this transfer.
  4. If the transfer refers to a mare, any mating details should also be indicated. As the resulting foal from this mating will be born into the membership of the new owner, a Certificate of Service, signed by the owner of the sire (if not the vendor) at the time of the service, will be required before an application to register can be processed.
  5. The signature of both the vendor and the purchaser to be included.
  6. No transfer will be processed with the original registration certificate, signed by the last registered owner of the pony, as per the Society's records. If the original certificate has been lost, a request for a Duplicate may only be requested in writing by the last registered owner of the pony.

NO TRANSFER WILL BE PROCESSED WITHOUT THE REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE.

PROCEDURE TO LEASE

LEASE APPLICATION FORM

  1. The LESSOR is the registered owner of the pony. The lessor must be financial member of the Society and remain so for the duration of the lease.
  2. The original Foal Recording or Adult Registration certificate must accompany this application. The original registration certificate is held by the owner/lessor and a photo copy is forwarded to the lessee.
  3. The LESSEE is the person to whom the pony is to be leased. The lessee must be a financial member of the Society and remain so for the duration of the lease.
  4. If the pony is to be leased for a set period of time, specific dates should be stated. At the end of the lease the pony is automatically transferred back to the owner. Nothing further is required. If the lease is for an indefinite period of time, then this should be indicated. To terminate an open ended lease, or if a lease is terminated before the due date, both parties must sign a LEASE TERMINATION.
  5. If the lease refers to a mare, any mating details should be indicated. As the foal from this mating would be born into the membership of the lessee, a Certificate of Service, will be required before an application to register can be processed.
  6. The lessor and the lessee must be financial members and remain so for the termination of the lease. Both must sign the lease agreement.
  7. All requirements as indicated must be fulfilled, or the lease will not be accepted. This is the only form of lease recognized by the Society. The information as provided is the only information recognised in the Society's records.

CLASSIFICATION OF PONIES

To maintain our standard of excellence the Society requires all stallions and those purebred mares wishing to be registered in the International Section of the Stud Book to apply for Classification. To be eligible for Classification into Section 1 or 2 of the Stud Book a colt/filly must have been foal recorded with the CPBSA Inc and meet the requirements of Section 2.1(b) of the ICCPS Rules. It must not exceed 14.2hh and ponies can be Classified from 2 years of age. Owners/Lessees must be current financial Full members of the CPBSA Inc. Steps to follow:

  1. Request for Classification must be lodged with the Federal Secretary by August each year. It is suggested you contact your State Representative if you have a pony to be Classified to find out possible dates/venues of upcoming Classifications.
  2. When a request is received the pony owner will receive a package containing - application form, veterinary certificate, DNA requirements, breed description and details of procedure to be followed re application.
  3. Return completed Application for Classification form with fee ($50 for Stallions and Mares). Veterinary Certificate to be returned by Veterinarian direct to Federal Secretary as per instructions on certificate.
  4. Veterinary certificate of suitability is viable for two years.
  5. Measurement - if pony is close to 14.2hh limit, measurement MAY be required by Classifiers.
  6. All ponies, on passing Classification, will be required to be DNA fingerprinted and this can be undertaken before or after Classification.
  7. On receipt of your application your State Representative will arrange a date/venue for the Classification and contact you with these details Travel and associated expenses will be incurred by owner if the owner requires Classification other than the designated one.
  8. Expectations for presentation of Pony on the day of Classification: · able to be led out at a walk and trot and stand for Classification · be able to be handled by Classifiers safely (pick up feet, etc) · a well presented pony (colts need to be bridled)
  9. Colts will be Classified by three (3) Classifiers and fillies/mares by two (2).
  10. Owners will be notified of Classification results on the day by the State Representative or nominee. The Federal Secretary will send out a copy of the Classifiers score sheet within two weeks of Classification. Successful ponies will then need to be Adult Registered and DNA tested.
  11. If unsuccessful at first Classification members may re-apply at a future Classification following the same procedure outlined above.

MERIT AWARD

Our Connemara of the Year Award was replaced in 2000 with a Merit award. It costs $10 per pony per year and the Federal Society awards a prize each year to the most successful pony entered. Each State also presents the best performed pony a prize.

Several sections are offered, Purebred, Pony Club, Sporthorse.  When you enter a card and sheet, giving explanation of points for type of events entered, is posted to you. To enter the pony must be registered and the owner a member. Performance points can be accumulated from any Open competition holding events listed on the score sheet. The owner must indicate on the performance card which level the class is e.g. Novice, Restricted, Pony Club etc, if no level is indicated the points for the lowest level will apply. Only points listed on official performance card will be accepted. When performance card is filled, a new card will be supplied. All cards must be returned to the Federal Secretary by the end of July each year for recording by the Secretary and shall then be returned to owner.

On all matters relating to this Competition the Committee's decision is final. When 200 points are accumulated a Bronze Order of Merit Certificate shall be issued. When 500 points are accumulated a Silver Order of Merit Certificate shall be issued. When 1,000 points are accumulated a Gold Order of Merit Certificate shall be issued.

Points can be backdated from the beginning of 2000, but must be accompanied by sufficient proof. It is hoped that once this system has been operating for a few years awards can be given to stallions and mares for performance of progeny.

Don't miss out - enter your pony!

JO HEARD MEMORIAL TROPHY

A special friend to many in our Society, Jo Heard was a tireless worker for the CPBSA and a professed Connemara convert. Her 'Ballantrae' Stud aimed to breed ponies for children of all ages to enjoy, a capable pony in all disciplines as well as good company.

This she achieved and it is in her memory that we award each year the Jo Heard Memorial Trophy - this goes to an all round pony with that something special - not necessarily out winning ribbons at shows.
